Are You A Closet Stutterer?
I had a very interesting telephone call last night from a man called Pete. During the conversation he stated that he was a "closet stutterer" and that he was eager to find a way to eradicate his stutter.
It is interesting how people seem to put themselves into some form of stuttering class:
closet stutter
slight stutter
mild stutter
severe stutter
I guess that during the eighteen years that I had this form of speech impediment that I would have described it is a "mild stutter".
Here is a question for you:
Is it harder to live life with a severe stutter or a slight stutter?
You would think that the answer to this question would be an automatic one however a person who has a slight stutter or a slight stammer is forever attempting to hide it from other people, this takes a lot of effort and energy. Somebody who has a severe stutter or a severe stammer does not need to try to hide it as everyone is able to hear the difficulties that they are having.
It is a tricky one - I choose fluency every time!
