Do You Stutter When Talking To Yourself?
During the eighteen years that I had a stutter I was always able to speak to myself without even a hint of a problem. This in fact was quite a comfort to me as this showed that I could one day achieve fluency. If I can talk to myself without stuttering then I should be able to talk to everybody without stuttering.
This is perhaps why I became so frustrated with the speech therapy that I received and the whole negative approach of the therapists themselves. They attempted to convince me that there was not a cure for stuttering and that I should accept the fact that I have a stutter. This is just so defeatist and is just them saying that they can not be bothered to find a solution.
Unfortunately even today speech therapists and other people are still attempting to convey the same message, fully thirteen years after I achieved fluency! Instead of saying that nobody can help you they should say I can't help you.
If you are able to talk to yourself then you will be able to achieve fluency.
