King George VI - A true inspiration
I will always remember a converation that I had with my grandmother when I was aged fourteen. My nan was an amazing person and I miss her greatly (she passed away three years ago).
I had been having a bit of a tough time with my speech and had started to feel rather sorry for myself. My nan, who was called Margaret, realised this and wanted to bring me back to reality. She told me about King George VI who was the King of England from 1937-1952.
Despite his speech impediment and the fact that he was an extremely shy person he proved to be a very inspirational leader through those troublesome war years. The people of England would listen intently on their radios to his speeches and he was always there helping to pick up the pieces after the Germans had been on one of their bombing raids.
"King George VI did not hide Steve, he was a real man, a man who eventually fought to overcome his stutter. Get a grip Steve there are many people in a far worse position than you are."
Over the next few years I studied more about the life of this truly inspirational King and I soon had a great belief that one day I too would be able to achieve fluency.
