Should The Bankers Receive A Bonus?

There is a big debate going on here in the UK with regards to the current recession, the credit crisis and the role of the major banks in the whole mess. It leads to a common question, do the bankers deserve to receive their bonus?

The majority of people are becoming rather frustrated with the lack of REAL POSITIVE action of our Prime Minister Gordon Brown. His measures thus far have not saved the world, despite what he says, they have not even saved our own country! He seems powerless to stop the bankers receiving their bonuses, seems unable to persuade the banks to start lending to small businesses and has failed in his attempts to persuade these banks to pass on the interest rate cuts.

I have heard the "legal" argument that the bankers are contractually allowed to receive the bonuses but hold on one moment these people would not even have a job if you and I, the taxpayers, had not bailed them out.

Many of us will have watched the big bosses of these major banks saying "sorry" on the television last week. "We will not do it again" came their message. So what if I do not pay my mortgage? If I sorry and that I will pay next time, will you let me off the charges etc? No way is their answer. So why should we forgive?

I personally believe the lowly bank staff, the administrators, the public facing clerk and the junior managers may possibly deserve a bonus but as for the higher management and the directors, no way Jose!

Do teachers receive a bonus? Do doctors receive a bonus? Do dentists receive a bonus? No, No and No. Enough said.
