Stuttering Reality: A Happy Loner?

I had to cope with having a stutter throughout my teenage years and it was far from easy at various times. I was far from your typical teenager and would often spend large periods on my own - some what of a loner some would say.

So was I lonely? No.

Was I an unahppy loner? No, not due to the fact that I was often spending time alone but yes due to the fact that I had a speech impediment.

To be honest with you I loved being on my own. I felt safe and in control. In public, various people would mock me which would of course frustrate and annoy me.

I was a person who liked to read, who liked to watch the T.V and who would like to sleep!

Even now, as a thirty six year old person who is now able to enjoy fluency, I like to be on my own. This is quite a rarity these days due to the fact that I have two children.

I guess you could call me a happy loner!
