This stutter is eroding my confidence

Here is a conversation that I had with my mother when I was aged fourteen:

"Mum this stutter is eroding my confidence, I am not sure what to do, speech therapy just is not working, there are even days when I can not even say my name."

"I am not sure what to say Steve. I have never had a stutter therefore I can not really comprehend what you are going through."

"I just have to overcome the stutter. There is no way that I can even contemplate having this speech imediment for the rest of my life."

"You have to keep believing, do not listen to the negative people who say that there is no cure for stuttering. I am confident, that in time, you will achieve fluency."

"Thanks mum, I guess in the mean time I will just have to grin and bear it."
