Who do you think you are?

When I had a stutter I was a person who was very concerned about what other people thought of me. I suppose you could say that I was somebody who wanted to be liked and respected.

I often believed, rightly or wrongly, that people would think less of me when they heard me struggle with my speech.

This was a thought process that stayed with me for well over a decade but I eventually realised that I could not continue living in this way.

After much reading and studying I learnt that I had to stop caring what other people thought of me. As long as I am being a good person, honest, trustworthy, loyal, hard working and caring then I should have nothing to fear.

Certain individuals do look and treat people who stutter/stammer as something similar to a second class citizen, I for one have felt this on more than one occasion. How dare they? Who do they think they are?

I have a fairly quirky website at http://www.gain-confidence.co.uk which includes articles and information about how to increase self-esteem/confidence.
